The Ancient Acropolis is the third dungeon of The Legend of Zelda: Mystery of the Gods.
The Ancient Acropolis is located in the Taav Ruins section of the Taav Plateau north of Hyrule Castle. Many fire and shadow themed creatures patrol the insides, guarding its treasures. It is a generally flat structure with only one tower; however this tower goes between the first and third floors of the dungeon.
Link gets to the Ancient Acropolis after going through the Taav Ruins, the key of which he gets by giving the Blue Crystal to the Goron Elder.
The dungeon was designed using a grid system such that rooms to the east have higher numbers than rooms to the west and rooms to the north have letters later in the alphabet than rooms to the south, with the first room of the dungeon being called A3.
In the first room of the dungeon (A3), Link finds three doors: one in the north, one in the east, and one in the west. The door in the north cannot be gotten to, as it is blocked by an impassable lava flow. The western door is locked, requiring a key, so Link heads through the eastern door.
One Room East, One Room NorthEdit
In this room (A4), Link finds a wooden bri dge going across a large pool of lava. The bridge intersects with another bridge that goes to the sides of the room. The only ground is at the front of the room, the back of the room, and small platform at either side where the bridges end. There is a door to the left and in the front, but no other doors. In addition, the front door is barred shut. Many Fire Keese and Magma Spumes are in the room. Link should simply head north and go through the door on the left. Just before this, as he goes on the platform before the door, all the bridges in the room collapse.
Past this door, Link arrives in an oddly shaped room (B4): it starts out as a long and high hallway, before it curves around to the left in the shape of a ribbon. There is a door at the far end of the room, and there is also pool of lava in the center of the ribbon. Several Red Chuchus are in the room, as well as a few Fire Keese. There is also a hole in the bottom of the wall. Link can roll a bomb into the hole, hitting a crystal switch, revealing a chest containing a Small Key; however, since he cannot go back to the first room of the dungeon, he should go through the door at the other end of the room.
Two Rooms WestEdit
Link exits in the room north of the first room of the dungeon (B3). There is another door across from him. To the north, there is a large stone block against the wall. Link should go into the first room of the dungeon and find himself on a platform with a chest on it. This chest contains the Dungeon Map. Link should head back to the previous room and then go to the left door, which takes him to the west.
In this room (B2), Link finds a crimson crystal switch in the dead center of the room, as opposed to the normal pink color. A door is on the left side of the room; however, it is on an unreachable ledge. There are two more identical structures like this in the front of the room and the right side of the room. There is lava around the edges of the room. By hitting the switch, it turns blue, and the lava drains in this section of the dungeon. If Link were to hit it again, the lava would rise to the original level. Link should go back to the room where the bridges were (A4) and notice two switches where the lava was. He should press one, unbarring the door heading to the east. The other switch makes platforms appears around the edge of the room so Link can now get around the room even if there would be lava. He should head to the room where he can raise the lava and then raise it, before returning to this room. Link should hop over to the door leading to the east and head through it.
East of the Bridges RoomEdit
In this room (A5), Link sees a treasure chest on the far end of the room. There is ground along the front and the back of the room, as well as a platform in the center of the front, and a rope threaded through a horizontal hole on a spire on the platform. The rope is tied at either end to the to ends of the room. Two Magma Spumes are four Fire Keese are in the room as well. Link should pull himself and the platform to the other end of the room where he can open the chest containing a second Small Key. He should pull himself and the platform back to the other side of the room and then head back into the room with the bridges.
Back in this room (A4), Link should go the east side of the platform leading to the door back to the first room of the dungeon and climb a ladder here. He should then head through the door. In the first room (A3), Link should head to the west and unlock the door with one of his two keys.
West of the First RoomEdit
In this room (A2), Link finds ground in front of him, two separate section of ground on the far end, with the section on the right leading to a staircase that goes to a door into the room to the north. There are also doors on the left far ground and the right far ground. There is a roped platform in front of him; however, this platform, unlike the previous one Link saw, can go in two directions. There is also another roped platform in the middle of the lava towards the left that only goes in one direction: front and back. It should be noted that the roped platforms cannot bring Link to the right section of ground at the back of the room as it is blocked. A couple Magma Spumes and several Fire Keese are in this room. Link should pull himself and the platform forward and to the left, hop onto the other platform, and then pull himself forward onto the far ground. He should head through the door here.
In this room (A1), Link finds a locked door to the right, which would take him north; however, the door is blocked by a lava flow. There is also another door on the wall he entered a long, this one leading him to ground that lead to the staircase in the previous room. This door, however, is barred. There is lava around the edges of the room, except for the front edge. There are two blocks in the room and one switch. Link should push one block onto the switch, opening a hole in the wall revealing a crystal switch. He should push the other block as close to the crystal switch as he can, and then hit the switch with his boomerang, unbarring the door. Link should go through the door to the previous room (A2).
He should quickly go up the staircase and then go through the door. He finds himself in the room where the lava could be drained with the red crystal switch (B2). He can push a block off the ledge he is on to the ground below, so he can climb back up if he falls down. He should hit the crystal switch and drain the lava. He should go back two rooms and head across to the door no longer blocked by the lava flow, unlock it, and head through it.
West of the Lava Level Changing RoomEdit
In this room (B1), Link finds a room with no lights. There are two torches in the center of the room and a wooden stick between them. he should pick up the stick and light it on fire. He should then light the four torches in the four corners of the room, making it bright enough to see throughout the room. Link can now notice that the room is filled with Keese. Upon killing all the Keese, the door to the north unbars itself. Before Link does this, he should go into the door on the west side, which takes him to a second ledge in the room with the lava changing switch. He should drop another block down so he can get back up, hit the switch, and then return to the previous room. Now, he should go through the north door.
In this room (C1), the Link finds two doors: a locked door to the left and an open door to the right. Other than a few Keese in the room, there is nothing. Link should go the room to the east.
One Room EastEdit
In this room (C2), the door Link arrived in bars shut upon closing. He finds two roped platforms, one of which is on the close side and one of which is on the far side. The close one can only move forward and backward, but the other one can move in four directions. There is ground at the front and back of the room, as well as on the left side heading south; however, this ground is secluded from the rest. There is also a door by this ground. Link should hop onto the near platform and pull himself and it all the way across. He should then go to the other platform and pull himself and it to the platform near the door in the room. He heads through to arrive on the final ledge in the lava changing room. He pushes a block down so he can get back up, hits the crystal switch, and then returns to the room. With the lava drained, a chest has been revealed on a ledge in the middle of the pit where the lava was. He should pull himself over to it using the platform, drop down, and collect the Small Key inside. This also magically unbars the door Link originally entered the room through. He should climb back onto the platform, pull himself and the platform over to this door, and head into the room.
In the previous room (C1), Link should go directly across, use the key to unlock the door, and then head through.
To the West SectionEdit
This room (C0, C-1, D-1) is a long corridor leading Link to the west section of the dungeon. He should simply go through it, killing any Red Chuchus and Fire Keese he needs to, and go through the door at the end of the room.
Entrance to the WestEdit
In this room (E-1), Link finds three statues in a row at the back of the room. There is also a door on a ledge that Link cannot get to on the right side of the room. The middle statue has an opening near its mouth. Link should throw a bomb inside, making the statue raise upward, revealing a door behind it. Link should head through this door.
Four Rooms NorthEdit
In this room (F-1), Link finds a door to the north and a door on an unreachable ledge to the west. Link should go through the door and head into the next room.
In this room (G-1), there is a door in the north. To the west, there is an unreachable ledge with a border around it so Link cannot see what is in it. Link should simply go into the next room.
In the next room (H-1), Link finds a barred door to the north and a door on an unreachable ledge to the west. There is a chest on the ledge. Next, there are several Fire Keese in the room. Finally, there are four torches in each corner of the room, there northwest and southeast ones being lit. A pattern is at the center of the room with the northeast and southwest torches being lit. Link must grab a stick in the room to light the two unlit torches. Then, by defeating all the Fire Keese, the two originally lit torches will go out, unbarring the door. Link should head through to the next room.
Here (I-1), Link finds only a door to the west, but the door cannot be accessed because of a lava barrier. There is a large structure in the center of the room. Upon bombing it, it cracks apart, leaving only a platform that can be pushed into the lava, forming a barrier. Link can walk over it and get to the door. He should head through into the next room.
The Lava Sliding Platform RoomEdit
In this room (I-2, H-2, G-2, F-2), Link sees a platform at the edge of the room he is on and a long, sloped down pool of lava with a doorless wall at the end with some ground around it and a hole in the bottom of it and three doors at the side, corresponding to the previously seen unreachable doors; however, the farthest door does not have a platform around it, so Link cannot go through it at this time. There is also a roped platform near the edge of the ground that can be pulled horizontally, vertically, and upwards and downwards; however, Link is not strong enough to lift the platforms upwards and downwards. He can take himself and the platform over to the closest door, go through it, and find the chest he saw before, which contains the Compass. Link should go all the way to the end of the room and roll a bomb through the hole at the end of the room. A switch is hit, opening a door beneath the lava. He should go to the middle door and head through it, finding a red switch that will lower the lava level. He should go back through and notice the door below the high platform and the end of the room, below where the hole leading to the switch was. There is also a ladder leading down to where the platform is. Link should head through this door.
Mini Boss 1Edit
In this room (E-2), the door bars after it closes behind Link. He finds a circular room with a circular platform and then 6 wedge shaped platforms surrounding it. Lava is flowing between the platforms. When Link gets to the center of the room, two Lizalfos jump down and the mini boss fight begins. Once Link defeats the Lizalfos, the lava drains in the room, revealing a chest and a roped platform that can be pulled upwards and downwards. In the chest, Link will find the dungeon item, the Silver Gauntlets. Using these, he can now lift himself upwards and downwards on the roped platforms, and lift heavy objects. He should pull himself to the top of the room where he finds the switch that he previously hit to open the door to this room. He should hit it, unbarring the door so he can leave the room.
In the previous room, he should climb the ladder and hit the now blue switch, raising the lava in the western portion of the dungeon. He should return to the previous room, and use his new gauntlets to move the platform right next to the final door, which acts only as a shortcut back to the previous sections of the dungeon. Link should head through, and then continue backtracking until he makes it to the room where he saw the large stone block in the north of the room.
Finishing the South SectionEdit
The Stone BlockEdit
In this room (B3), Link can use the Silver Gauntlets to move the stone block, revealing a door behind it. Link should head through and return to the next room, first making sure that the lava in the south section of the dungeon is raised.
